It is a municipality of the Priorat County. It has an area of 5,25 km². The village is situated in the valley of the small river of Escaladei, very near to the point where it flows to the Montsant River, in the closer township of La Vilella Baixa. At the right hand side of the river, we see the cliffs of Els Montalts. The township is mountainous because of the presence of the eastern part of the Montsant Mountain Range.

The village is situated on the top of a hill, and it is the only inhabited place of the township.

The agriculture is the most important activity of the population, even though more than half of the surface is waste. In these lands there are forests, grazing lands and thickets. The most important crop is the vineyard, which has recently experienced a soft increase. Less important are the almond and olive trees. The are few irrigated lands.

The "Sindicat d'Agricultors" was founded in 1933. Its actual name is "Cooperativa Agrícola".
